Frequently Asked Questions
NSV Network welcomes older adults who share our commitment to living purposeful lives as we grow older. Our members range in age from 50s to 90s.
I am living independently and don’t need any supportive services. Why should I join?
Our members cite three key reasons:
• “As I get older, my social circle is shrinking, NSV Network is a great way to meet new people.”
• "NSV Network knowledge-sharing programs are a great way to stay informed and in charge of my health and wellbeing.”
• “It’s a form of insurance. I want NSV Network to be there when I need a hand, so I’m paying it forward by enrolling now.”
Can I buy my parents or someone else a membership?
Absolutely! A gift membership is a thoughtful way to show someone that you care about their well-being.
If I join NSV Network, am I expected to volunteer?
Volunteering for NSV Network is an option, not a requirement. Some of our volunteers are NSV Network members. Others are community members who support our mission and enjoy helping our members with transportation, tech support, household paperwork, and other tasks that support their independence.
I live on a fixed income - what if I can’t afford the membership fee?
NSV Network offers a Supported Membership at a reduced fee for people who are eligible for the Illinois Benefits Access Program (through the Illinois Department on Aging). Click here to find out more about this program. NSV Network staff can help you determine if you qualify.
Can I call on NSV Network in an emergency?
NSV Network is not an emergency response service. During a medical emergency, members should call 911 or their doctor. Once the emergency has passed, you can call on NSV Network volunteers for transportation and other assistance you may need.
What is the best way to meet people if I join NSV Network?
Log on to the NSV Network calendar and sign up for social or educational events that interest you. When you join, you will get a personal welcome from our membership committee, who will be happy to introduce you to other NSV Network members.
Where do NSV Network Members reside?
NSV Network has members in Evanston, Wilmette, Glenview, Skokie, Rogers Park, and Northbrook.
